Piccini: “Valencia is our home and the Valencian people are our people”
The former Valencia CF footballer has helped those affected by the DANA storm with over 3,000 kg of food
Valencia CF coach José Bordalás spoke after the defeat to Real Betis at the Benito Villamarín.
What analysis do you make of the defeat? Gayà has apologised to the fans and has said that you cannot lose like this.
Today's defeat against Real Betis is a step backwards. Gayà is right. You can lose, but not like this. The fans do not deserve this showing, which was that of a fragile team. We are very angry. We made defensive mistakes in the first half and another mistake on a corner for the third. We are working to reverse the situation.
How is Gabriel Paulista?
We are concerned about Gabriel Paulista. They are doing tests, he is under observation and hopefully it is not serious. He will likely have to stay in tonight for observation because he did not remember anything.
How are the team going to regroup to change the dynamic?
The only way is by ensuring that the team are not so fragile. We are conceding goals in the opening minutes, and a team like Real Betis take advantage of that and hurt you. We have to pick ourselves up and prepare for the game against Villarreal CF. We have to reflect and lift ourselves up. First of all, because of our fans, as they do not deserve the showing we gave today and they do not deserve the result that we achieved today. We are responsible, and we have to improve and react. You can lose a game, but not in the way we did.
Have the team stopped believing? How is the dressing room?
What is happening is evident; the team have been very fragile. The team believe, the team work to compete and to have good games. We are preparing conscientiously to correct these aspects and change this dynamic of results. In the dressing room there is a good group and a good atmosphere. Right now the players are obviously downbeat, but we are all responsible. As coach, I’m the first to take responsibility. There is no time to lament things, as we have to prepare for the next game.
Are you planning to travel to Singapore soon?
At the moment there is no trip to Singapore planned. We are working and we are focused on the competition.
What needs to be corrected to regain the good progress from the start of LaLiga?
The responsibility is mine, and it’s why I’m the coach. The players work hard, they give absolutely everything and we can’t criticise them for that. We continue working to correct these aspects of the game. When you concede these goals, it is very difficult to win games. We are shipping too many goals, so it is impossible. We have to improve in terms of our forcefulness. The competition doesn’t wait; if we don’t want to have problems then we have to improve as soon as possible.
Thierry, Carlos Soler and Maxi Gómez were absent. When can you get them back?
Thierry and Carlos were ok, but with three games in a row we decided not to rush their return. We thought it was not necessary and we preferred to have them at 100%. Maxi has an injury and we'll see if we can have him for the next game.
Are you afraid that nerves amongst the fans could be generated with the lack of results?
It is normal that the fans are not happy with the team because the results have not been good. The team have given everything and are motivated, they want to win and they cannot be reproached for their work, but we have to improve in aspects of our play, be stronger physically and stronger defensively. If we are fragile, we will be far from winning a match. Valencia CF are a big club, we have a great responsibility and we have to give everything every day to reverse the bad run of results.
